The World of Scouting Museum
is pleased to announce the hiring of Michele D. Vera as the new
full-time Curator. Michele Vera grew up in Schuylkill Haven,
PA, where she was a member of the local Brownie and Junior Girl
Scout troops. She developed an early interest in museums, music
and art. Michele went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts
degree in History from Lebanon Valley College. After internships
at several area local museums and historic sites, including Landis
Valley Museum, Hopewell Furnace NHS, the Historical Societies
of York and Lancaster Counties, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania,
Michele received a Master's degree in American History with emphasis
in Museum Studies from the University of Delaware.
Michele then joined the staff of the National Watch and Clock
Museum in Columbia, PA. During nearly ten years, Michele
served in a variety of roles including Registrar and Associate
Curator. In this capacity, she oversaw all aspects of collections
management for over 12,000 timepieces and decorative artifacts,
and participated in a complete re-design and renovation of the
Museum's exhibit galleries. Before joining the World of
Scouting Museum as Collections Manager and Associate Curator,
Michele served as a curatorial volunteer at the Chester County
Historical Society in West Chester and as Curator at the Boyertown
Museum of Historic Vehicles.

It is with great sadness that we report
the passing of founding board member and our secretary/treasurer
Eunice Taylor (10-15-05). She was a wonder to us all, and will
be missed dearly. The family has requested that all memorial
donations be sent to either the Freedom Valley Girl Scouts or
The World of Scouting Museum. |
